Between 5 % and 25% of youngsters and teens in the United States nowadays suffer from obesity. Obesity amongst kids is increasing by the day. Progressively more kids and teens are increasingly becoming obese. Obesity usually increases as we grow older, even though it is well-known that overweight toddlers don't always stay overweight into childhood and not all overweight kids continue to be obese into their adult years, Meaning that there's a greater likelihood of staying overweight during your lifetime if you're overweight as a kid.

There are many factors that causes obesity in children. Just like grown ups, inactive kids that consume a lot of food are at a greater risk of being obese. Most young kids nowadays are very inactive. Safety concerns as well as technology are major reasons to kids being inactive. Most kids stay indoors nowadays instead of playing around on the streets or front yards due to safety concerns. All the new technology from computers to I-pods and tablets and all the social sites are another major reason why kids are turning into couch potatoes.

Consuming less nutritious foods and more fatty foods and sugary drinks has to be the main reason there are so many obese youngsters. Both parents have to work these days to make ends meet, that usually means less home cooked food and more junk food and we all know what junk food does to our bodies.

Genetic factors play a big role in children obesity. Youngsters born to overweight parents usually weigh considerably more than kids born to parents with average weight. It also seems that there is an inherited characteristic in babies born to obese parents that makes them conserve energy and do less physical activities resulting in more weight gain.

There might be some unknown physical and psychological reasons for children obesity also. It is advised that you have a professional health care provider do the proper diagnosis and treatment if that happens to be the case.

Childhood Obesity is the most common reason for pediatric hypertension according to many studies. It is also directly linked to type 2 diabetes. Obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as back and joint problems due to the excess weight that puts a lot of stress on them. The most damaging effect of Childhood Obesity though might be psychological more than physical. Obese kids usually have a very low self esteem and they shy away from interacting with other children which leads to depression in many cases.

Many studies have shown that it is much easier to change eating habits as well as exercise habits in kids than in adults. So early detection and intervention might be the best way to dealing with obesity issues in youngsters. So the earlier you start working on fixing the problem the more positive the results are.
